Want or need a wireless audio system, like now? Sonos has just what you need. The S5 system is an amazing wireless speaker system that was made in the same spirit as the Apple products with which it works so well. It’s simple to install, works flawlessly, and costs a lot.

Sorry,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], great products aren’t always cheap.

What makes this system so cool is how easy it is to setup and use. The speakers themselves only need to be plugged into an outlet for power. The Sonos ZoneBridge needs power and an ethernet connection to your router. Then all you have to do is push a button on each to sync them together in the Sonos controller. This syncing has to be done only once, unless power is disconnected from any of the speakers. Even still, this is very simple; even Grandma could do it.

The only other thing you’ll have to do is give the controller access to your music and online accounts like Pandora. This, too, is fairly simple, though the music you have stored in iTunes will likely take a while to process with the Sonos application. One bad thing is that you won’t be able to play protected iTunes content, and that might be a deal breaker for avid iTunes Store shoppers. But if you buy all of your music on CDs, you’re fine. After that’s all done, you’re ready to roll.

Playing music is great. Just select a speaker and tell it what to play. This could be any number of things such as music from your hard drive, internet radio, local radio or even line in audio. It seems a bit strange to me that you have to tell the speaker to play line in audio, but I suppose it makes sense since the purpose of this speaker system is to play what you tell it to play with the controller.

Notice I didn’t specify which controller? That’s because controlling playback is a breeze on both the desktop and iDevice applications. In fact, Sonos just released a brand new iPad app, and it’s awesome. There’s easy access to all of your music and internet audio services, and the app is just really great. What really blew me away was the fact that you could stream from two different Pandora stations to two different speakers at the same time with the same account. I didn’t even know that was possible. Of course, you can play just about anything over any of the speakers in your system. You have total control. You could even have everyone in your family download the app and control their own speaker individually. Nifty.

Sound quality is superb as well. I again was surprised at just how good these speakers sound. They don’t sound like they’re wireless, if you know what I mean, and you can taylor the output as you see fit with whatever EQ settings you like.

I guess there’s one thing this system is missing: Apple AirPlay support. I’d like to be able to pump audio directly from my iPhone or iTunes into any one of these speakers. I’d guess this is a feature that could be added in the future, though I wouldn’t hold my breath. Honestly, I can’t blame Sonos sinceAirPlay is a pretty recent development.

Another drawback to the Sonos system is price. It costs a lot, but you get an amazing product, and you do save some money by already having an iDevice (Sonos sells their own controllers, which are expensive and aren’t as multipurpose as an iPhone or iPad). But in the end,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Sonos system is simple to set up, convenient to use,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and you’d never guess there isn’t some super expensive wire connecting it to its audio source. You get what you pay for, and the Sonos system is amazing.
